Pro1 Lens Cap
The Canon Pro1 camera comes with a petal-style lens hood
which does a very effective job of keeping the sun off the
lens and protecting the front lens element. Unfortunately,
the Canon lens cap cannot be removed or replaced without removing
the lens hood first - a less than ideal situation. Furthermore,
there is no tether on the cap, almost ensuring its loss.
LensMate has come up with a lens cap that can be used with
the lens hood in place. Machined from black acetal resin ("Delrin"
is DuPont's trade name) and shaped to match the inside contour
of the lens hood, it's easily removed and replaced. Being
protected by the lens hood, it only requires a light friction
fit to stay securely in place. The rear of the cap is crowned
to give plenty of clearance between the cap and the lens.
To prevent the cap from disappearing, it has a black nylon
tether securely attached without adhesives. The other end
loops around the front of the lens barrel. This makes for
a short tether that's less likely to snag than one connected
to the camera body or neck strap. Included are self adhering
Velcro "coins" for optional cap storage (cap attaches
to the bottom of the hood out of the way while shooting -
especially useful in windy situations).
