This is just the adapter; enables your camera to use auxiliary filters and lenses.

The G9/G7 Lensmate adapter comes with a free end cap (not to be confused with a lens cap, the end cap covers the rear of the adapter when the adapter/lens or filter is removed from the camera). The adapter requires a 58mm clip-in type cap the same size as the adapter thread, this type of cap will also fit onto a filter.

Neutral Density filters have several uses and offer the possibility to achieve otherwise unachievable results. ND filters appear gray and reduce the amount of light reaching the film or sensor. They have no effect on color balance. Their primary uses are: 1) To enable slower shutter speeds to be used, to record movement or motion blur in subjects such as waterfalls, clouds, or cars. 2) To decrease depth of field by allowing wider apertures to be used, which helps separate subjects from their background and improve bokeh. The ND8 will reduce the light transmission by 3 stops.

One half of this filter is NDx4 Neutral Density and the other half is clear, with a soft boundary between the two. It is used to control bright/dark contrast by reducing half the shot by 2 stops. Particularly useful in landscape photography, the rotating mount allows bright skies to be easily controlled for dramatic effect.
