Lensmate Cokin P - Style Filter Holder

Option A

Now you can add ND, ND Grad, or any filter that fits the Cokin P holder* (84mm wide filters) to the Lensmate G10 72mm lens adapter without vignetting at any focal length.

The Cokin P style holder snaps into the groove of the Lensmate G10B. With a round 72mm low-profile polarizer attached to the lens adapter, there's room for 1 square filter (if you're careful, you can use get a second one to just clear the polarizer). Without a polarizer, all 3 slots can be used.

Directions:
Simply snap the holder into the outside groove of the Lensmate G10B 72mm lens adapter (with or without the polarizer in place). Then insert square filter/s and adjust if necessary.

Note: To prevent the filter holder from turning too freely, a small black elastic band is included with the purchase of a Cokin P Style filter holder which is placed in the 72mm lens adapter groove before attaching the filter holder.

Option B

If you can tolerate a little vignetting, you can use all three of the filter holder slots and a polarizer by using the 72mm Cokin P adapter ring.  The polarizer goes onto the G10A+B first, the adapter ring screws into the polarizer, then the filter holder snaps onto the ring.

Full wide (28mm)
6.8mm (31mm)
These show P holder vignetting when the holder is attached using the 72mm adapter ring screwed into a low profile polarizer.  Results are the same in Wide aspect ratio.

It's easier to adjust the polarizer before attaching the  square filter holder, though it can be done afterward by rotating the entire assembly (always clockwise to avoid unscrewing the adapter ring). Then, while holding the polarizer from turning, adjust the filter holder so the slots are vertical (again only turning clockwise).  It's not as difficult as it might sound - once you actually set it up on the camera it's easy to figure out.

For those interested in using the G10A alone, the Cokin P style holder can be attached to a polarizer with a 58mm adapter ring.  The zoom range will still be limited by the polarizer, but all 3 square filter slots can be used.  Without the polarizer, the zoom range is extended as follows:

3 square filters - 6.1 - 18.1mm (or 28mm - 83mm film equivalent)
2 square filters - 6.1 - 21.5mm (or 28mm - 99mm)
1 square filter - 6.1- 25mm (or 28mm - 115mm)

*We sell the Cokin P holder clone, though the original Cokin P holder fits the lens adapter groove the same way. There are other copies made that do NOT fit the Lensmate G10 72mm lens adapter "B".

Lensmate Lee Filter Holder Adapter

Now you can add ND, ND Grad, or any filter that fits the Lee filter holder (100mm wide) to the Lensmate G10 72mm lens adapter.  There is no vignetting at any focal length.

(If you use the Lee 72mm WA adapter ring mounted on a low profile polarizer, you will get vignetting like the sample below at 28mm. To eliminate it, you must zoom to about 34mm. You can use the Lee 72mm WA adapter ring without a polarizer with no vignetting.)

The Lensmate Lee filter holder adapter attaches to the Lee filter holder using slightly longer screws which replace the original ones.  Once attached, the assembly snaps into the Lensmate G10B 72mm groove and is ready for use.  With a 72mm low-profile polarizer attached to the lens adapter, all 3 slots are accessible for 100mm square/rectangular filters.

To use, simply snap the holder into the groove of the Lensmate G10B 72mm lens adapter, add the polarizer, then the square filter(s), adjust and shoot.

Directions:

  • Replace each stock screw with one of the longer ones supplied.  We recommend doing this one screw at a time to avoid possible scrambling of the filter holder bits.  The new screws will stick out 1/4" or so on the rear side.  This is where the spacers and mounting plate will go.
  • Add the spacers first, then the mounting plate.
  • Secure with the 4 nuts supplied.  Finger tight is adequate.  If you need to use the filter holder on another camera, simply remove the Lensmate mounting plate and replace the nuts to cover the screws.

To attach the Lee filter holder to the Lensmate 72mm lens adapter:  If you're combining a round filter (thread-on) with the Lee holder, attach the Lee holder to the lens adapter first before the round filter. With the Lensmate adapter resting against the back of the Lee filter holder, just push the holder into the groove of the Lensmate adapter until it pops in - that's it. (Hold onto the lens adapter for support while doing this to prevent stressing the lens barrel).

Then attach the round filter before sliding in square filters. You can use any of the Lee filter grooves without vignetting, so if you're using a round polarizer, you might want to use the outside square filter grooves to allow access to the polarizer. Simply rotate the filter holder assembly on the lens adapter to desired orientation.
