Having a metal thread, it will never strip or cross thread
like plastic adapters can. You'll also find that the adapter
provides a place for your left hand - especially handy when
using the viewfinder. Both hands on the camera and the viewfinder
to your eye provides the most stable platform for avoiding
camera shake.
Those
who like the full time protection a lens adapter provides
will be glad to know there are no blocking issues common
to similar cameras. Because the S1 IS has an electronic
viewfinder, the adapter is never visible in the viewfinder
- and there's no flash shadow at any focal length either
with the built in pop-up flash.
Some
may find the 38mm wide end of the S1 IS limiting, but
with the quick-change bayonet mount, adding or changing
lenses is a snap. In addition to the Canon conversion
lenses - wide converter WC-DC52A .7X and teleconverter
TC-DC52B 1.6X, several non-Canon wide converters can
be used with the S1 IS. The Tiffen .75x, Raynox DCR-720,
and the Raynox 6600 .66X with custom spacer. Unfortunately,
neither the Kenko 2X nor the Tiffen 2X are compatible
with the S1. They both become extremely soft/hazy well
before full zoom is reached.
