LensMate
adapters are made from lightweight aluminum and are machine
threaded on both ends. As with Canon's own adapter, simply remove
the shiny ring around your G1's lens (where the lens cap goes)
and screw on the adapter. The outside end of the adapter is
threaded to accept any 49mm lens accessory including UV, Polarizer,
Infrared, Skylight, Macro, Telephoto or Wide angle filter-type
lenses. It can be left on permanently as it makes a great way
to hold the camera and it protects the lens surface and lens
mechanism.
The adapter
is 2" in diameter, just large enough to go around the lens
barrel but smaller than the Canon adapter which many people
have reported blocks some of the sensors and the flash.
The 49mm
size on the end of the adapter is one of the most common filter
sizes. The selection of filter/lenses is not only very large
but competitively priced compared to Canon's 58mm. The Canon
Macro (close-up) lens has a street price of about $115 and is
less powerful (and less versatile) than the macro sets that
we sell.

G1, a G1 with Canon's Macro lens and a G1 with our LensMate
Adapter and Macro Filter set.
But more
about the adapter: it is large enough not to vignette at any
focal length. We've heard of another adapter that reduces the
lens opening to 37mm- we would suggest that the smaller "glass"
would have to increase the potential for distortion and vignetting.
If you have a collection of filters/lenses already and require
a size other than 49mm, we offer "step-up" rings (and
"step-down" rings are readily available) to match
just about any size lens/filter to the LensMate adapter.
The adapter
itself is $20 and does not include filters. We also sell Macro-filter
sets, UV filters and Polarizers for the adapter.
