A80/A95 Wide Conversion Lens Samples

These wide-angle converter samples were taken using the LensMate 37mm and 52mm lens adapters on the Canon A80/A95. We have included samples at both full wide and full tele zoom positions for each converter to give some idea how well the converter performs as a zoom lens. The images are Large/Superfine jpegs straight from the camera.

We used architecture for the sample shots to show barrel distortion clearly. This is a worst case scenario for wide angle converters. In a natural landscape setting, even the worst barrel distortion may go unnoticed. Additionally, barrel distortion can be removed via software.

This composite image is made from the actual sample image from each of the wide converters. Lens distortion was corrected for each sample image so they would line up when overlaid. This allows you to see the angle of view for each converter lens all at once to compare. Composite by Charles Andrasko.

The Raynox 6600 is the most rectilinear of the group - that is, there is almost no barrel distortion and it depicts straight lines as straight lines. This makes it ideal for architecture, or any situation where distortion is undesireable.

The Tiffen 37mm .56x is easily the widest of the group. Surprisingly, it shows little barrel distortion, (and what little there is can easily be corrected with software) This makes it ideal for shooting interiors (as well as exteriors). Realtors might find this lens the most useful of the group.
