This test was done using the Kiwifotos lens adapter LA58G15.
The purpose of this test is to compare the built in macro mode of the Canon G15 with some of the more common macro lenses/filters available. Included are the Hoya +7 Macro set (+1, +2, +4, and combined +7), Hoya +10, the Canon 500D and 250D, Raynox DCR-150 and DCR-250, and the Raynox MSN 202 and 505.

The KIWIFOTOS LA-58G15 lens adapter has 58mm front threads and is made from aluminum which is anodized black.
Unlike the Canon LA-DC58L tele adapter which is designed for teleconverters only and vignettes at wide with filters, the KIWIFOTOS adapter has been made slightly shorter – it allows the use of any standard 58mm filter with no vignetting at any focal length . This adapter can still be used with a compatible teleconverter when not using a 58mm filter.
We recommend the Raynox DCR1542 teleconverter as it is slightly more powerful than the Canon TC-ED58E (1.54x vs 1.4x) with the added advantage of a 67mm front thread for filters. The Canon lens has no front threads.

We’ve obtained a copy of the new Canon SX50 HS and were surprised that Canon still used the same filter adapter FA DC67A on this camera. The lens grew significantly (.017) on the diameter to be exact) so even though the Canon filter adapter is flexible, the fit is very snug and requires an alarming amount of force to turn onto the camera lens.
We felt this change justified a new design, so we’re changing our Lensmate 58mm filter adapter appropriately. Though the focal length of the SX50 HS has increased dramatically, the wide end remains unchanged so the 58mm filter size is large enough to avoid vignetting at the wide end.
We also made some changes that allow our new SX50 HS filter adapter to be used on all other Canon SX series cameras (SX40, SX30, SX20, SX10 and SX1). In fact we think the fit and locking action is improved over previous models of our 58mm filter adapter.
Why use the larger 67mm filter adapter when it’s not necessary? It just takes up more space and uses more costly filters. The 58mm Lensmate filter adapter does not vignette at all at full wide (24mm) using a full depth polarizer.

Easily attached via the hot shoe, it is held securely with a machine screw that clamps the hot shoe rails so it can’t damage the camera. A silicon bumper under the thumb portion aligns and stabilizes the rest, as well as protects the camera finish.

Using the Lensmate Quick-Change Filter Adapter kit, only the tiny receiver stays on the camera (it adds only 3mm to the depth of the camera). The filter/filter holder assembly bayonets onto the receiver for quick changes without having to thread the filter on and off. The filter holder is retained by a low tension locking system, so very little torque is applied to the lens barrel when attaching and detaching it.

We’ve just obtained our new Powershot S100 and can confirm that our existing 37mm Quick Change filter adapter works perfectly.
Though the focal length has been extended to 24mm on the wide end (from 28mm on the S95), there is still no vignetting whatsoever even with a full depth 37mm polarizer attached. A redesigned lens control ring on the S100 means the Lensmate Quick Change receiver now adds only 2mm to the total depth of the camera.
